I want to talk about one of the aspects of everyday life in Montpellier, that I didn’t expect to find here at all- the strong representation of left-wing believers in my surroundings- that is, mostly in my university.
Communists and humanity studies go together like Asians and car accidents?

At least in our town, yes. And for a young student from the former Eastern bloc, who was raised with a strong aversion to all left-wing parties, glorifying capitalism, it is a very surprising, at times maybe even surrealistic experience to see Marxist believers running around at your university, energetically handing out little red flyers and openly talking about the wonders of communism.
Before writing this, I went through a LOT of late night or early morning, undoubtedly sober, high and drunk discussions with all kinds of people concerning this topic, asking why, and pourquoi all over again, sometimes getting all serious and philosophical about it, most of the time ending up telling racist jokes. Rarely making conclusions. Conclusions and logical reasons don’t interest me here, you can go to Wikipedia or history section of your local library for that. What I want to write about, is what this encounter had to do with me and if it somehow changed the way I perceive the world. Sorry if I disappointed you, but I am not going to talk shit about communists. Not in this article, at least.

So as shocked as I was at the beginning, now I have to admit that being confronted with completely opposite ideas than what I was used to in my home country helped me a lot in my personal growth. This sentence sounds so cheesy that I noticed it the second I wrote it down, but I don’t want to delete it, because I feel it’s true. Words make everything true sound shallow. Anyway, being smarter does make you a better person, and to get smarter, you need to broaden your horizons and get out of your shell, like the snails used to say… (I’m not funny.)
I am starting to understand that not one system is perfect for all of us, or in other words, while one girl might seem outrageously beautiful for one person, she can absolutely vomit-freak the hell out of the other one.
So while we all know (from our own experience and what history teaches us) that there is no such term as universal beauty, it is an interesting fact that we, the human race, are so easily and repeatedly, all of us and every one of us struck with the idea of a perfect world. Communism, capitalism, rainbow-style utopia or whatever else you want to call it. An idea so strong and absurd at a time, you stop to think how such a noble cause can be at the end a reason of so many deaths and misery in this world.
Just saying...

Hope you enjoyed my article! And if not, don’t worry, the next one will probably belong to the Category of Useless Nonsense (CUN), just like all of the ones I wrote before! Cheers!
Also, I am running short on offensive jokes, if you have some, please post them in the comment section! Thanks :)
